This movie is about an American Family heading towards California. When they Reached a petrol Kiosk just before crossing the desert, a petrol man directed them a "shortcut" where they would have to pass through the hills. As Expected, their cars and trailers's tyre got punctured and were not able to move off. The men walked a few miles to get help while the women,baby and a teenage guy stayed around their cars.
Dad Bob who walked back to the petrol kiosk got attacked after he found out that the hills live a family of genetically mutated clans who were cannibals. They were the offsprings of the survived miners when the Americans performed atomic test and had radioactive fallout across the desert few decades ago. All the offsprings looked defected in one way or another. Very disturbing indeed.
Few of the Carters were killed. The rest fought hard to return to the civilised life.. There many gross and violent scenes but i feel that the storyline is really interesting...
This movie was inspired by a legend/myth (still not known if it was true) of the Alexander "Sawney" Bean and his wife. They lived in a cave undetected for 25 years and had 46 offsprings (including children and grandchildren(product of incest)). Initially, the couple just killed the travellers for their money, but in the end, in order to support their growing family members they decided not to waste the corpses and feast them instead..This happened in the Scotland..up till now no one knows if this story is true cos it happened few centuries ago..If this interest u, then go Yahoo and find more.. if not ignore this Post..heheheh
